Player questions

Rules, solutions, controls, and trust.

Short answers to the questions players and search assistants most often need when explaining Murdok.

01

What is Murdok?

Murdok is a spatial detective puzzle. Read truthful witness statements, place one person in every row and column, then identify the victim’s only room companion.

02

Does every case have one solution?

Yes. Published cases are checked by a local constraint solver. The public clues alone must produce exactly one complete layout before a case can ship.

03

How is the murderer determined?

The murderer is not used as a hidden solving shortcut. First the clues produce the unique placement; then the game checks which single person shares the victim’s room.

04

Which cells can hold a person?

Open floor, rugs, doors, windows, and the victim marker can be used when the case allows it. Furniture and equipment cells marked “No standing” cannot hold a person.

05

How is case difficulty rated?

The rating combines board size, clue relation complexity, direct-clue ratio, scene density, and the solver’s search pressure. Introductory, easy, medium and hard cases are covered by regression checks; the label is an estimate of effort.

06

Can I play on mobile or with a keyboard?

Yes. Drag portraits on desktop, or select a portrait and hold a destination cell on touch devices. Board cells and modal controls also support keyboard interaction.

07

Does progress save, and can cases be printed?

Progress and preferences are stored on this device. The Print section previews a single A4 or Letter sheet with colored rooms or monochrome patterns, writing space and an optional answer overlay.

08

Is Murdok affiliated with another puzzle brand?

No. Murdok is an independent original game with its own Stillsea setting, cases, characters, artwork, and implementation.
